TASK FORCE 68

United States Paintball

AFTER ACTION REVIEWS

The point of After Action Reviews is to let everyone know three or more good things and three and more improvable things. All AAR's will be posted on here after an event. Each captain should report their own AAR to their State Commander so that the state commander can send a combined AAR up to the Region Commander who can then submit it to the Coalition S1 to publish on the website.  Each AAR for major events will need to be turned in no later than 4 days after the end of the event. Recommendation: Take notes for each day of the event if it is longer than a one day event.  Happy reading!

Sincerely,

MAJ Colt Dickerson
Coalition Commander

AAR 1-08-03-08

After Action Review of actions on August 3, 2008

Location:

OA Paintball

Bowie, MD

Teams in Phoenix Coalition at event:

“Viper Squadron”

Crazed Velocity

Charles County Shooters

Overview:

Everyone was registered under Crazed Velocity so it proved to be good on prices under a group rate.  Everyone showed up on time and was happy to meet up with the other teams.  The event was the Wild Wild West Scenario between greedy cattle ranchers and townspeople.

We were signed up on the Blue side which happened to be the evil cattle ranchers for this event.  MAJ Dickerson volunteered for a field commander position and was selected.  CPT Byers and CPT Kenny were constantly in cohorts with each of their teams, providing good cover, good communications and overall good paintball.  The first two rounds were excellent, the third was okay but the blue side fell apart due to the amount of younger players on the field.  The fourth and final round went a little better than the third but not as good as the first two rounds.  Crazed Velocity and CC Shooters should be commended for their teams’ actions for following the field’s chain of command as best as possible.

The Good:

1.  In-Action Communication

2.  Listening

3.  Teamwork

Explanation of “The Good”:

1.  During live action when everyone was together, everyone had excellent communication skills. There was no need for too much hand signals, so it wasn’t an issue on that part.

2.  Each player on all three teams listened to one another and to other Blue team players and successfully held the enemy at bay or accomplished the mission.  No one argued with the chain of command that was appointed by OA’s staff and no one broke ranks or “jumped the gun” so to speak.

3.  Everyone helped each other out as much as possible, whether they were in the Coalition or not.  Excellent teamwork skills.

The Bad:

1.  Radio Communications

2.  Military Tactics

3.  Field Rendezvous points

Explanation of “The Bad”:

1.  Radio Communications were only “bad” due to being in the woods with un- “high speed” radios. Not anyone’s mistake, just crappy comms between the radios.

2.  Tactics can be improved as far as buddy movements and squad tactics goes, but the only thing that can fix that is the proper training.  Once again, not entirely a bad thing, but something to improve on.

3.  Field rendezvous points were at the fault of MAJ Dickerson.  None were set up so none were used.  It wasn’t something that was really “needed” at this particular event due to the small size of the field and not a large number of players, but it is something we need to work and practice as commanders.

Everyone had fun and it is definitely looking good for the Phoenix Coalition as the first official Joint Operation Scenario Event with multiple coalition teams at one event.

HOOOAH Phoenix Coalition!!!!

This concludes the After Action Review for the Wild Wild West Scenario event hosted by OA Paintball.  If anyone has any questions, comments or things to add, please notify the Commander and he can add to it.
